3 Ways to Boost Your Confidence in Your Smile

Dentist Blog

Many people feel like their teeth do not look good, and find themselves unable to smile with confidence. However, there are steps you can take towards being proud of your smile, whether you choose to change your attitude or get a teeth whitening treatment.

Create a More Positive Outlook

One of the simplest (and cheapest!) ways to feel more confident about your smile is to change your attitude towards it. There are a few ways to do this. Think about how often you notice other people's teeth: typically, it isn't very often, and you don't expect the same degree of perfection from them that you expect from yourself. You may also think about why you consider certain features (in this case, maybe crooked or uneven teeth) as bad, and why. You could also think about celebrities and people in your life with less-than-perfect teeth that you consider attractive. However, if your insecurities are stopping you from smiling with confidence, there are other options, as explained below.

Ask Your Dentist for a Second Opinion

If you can't reconcile yourself to your smile, speak to your dentist and ask for their opinion. They'll be able to check the health of your teeth and help you resolve any issues. If you have any cracked or missing teeth they will be able to help, and they will be able to talk you through any cosmetic options that might apply to your situation, such as braces or retainers. Don't be embarrassed to speak to your dentist about the appearance of your teeth; most dentists are not judgemental and simply want to help their patients.

Consider a Teeth Whitening Treatment

You shouldn't feel ashamed of having discoloured teeth, but lots of people feel that white teeth are a huge confidence-booster. There are a few options available to you. Your dentist can perform laser whitening or can make a custom mouthguard for you which will be filled with a whitening gel. You can also go to a beauty salon, or buy a kit for home use, but there are risks associated. To be on the safe side, speak to your dentist who can provide advice on the best ways to whiten and care for your teeth, and can help you decide which teeth whitening treatment to go for.

Feeling better about your smile can be difficult, and there are a few ways you can raise your confidence. By following the tips above and working with your dentist, you can improve both your confidence and your smile easily.
