Types of Cosmetic Dental Treatments

Dentist Blog

The cosmetic dentistry industry is rapidly growing. It encompasses a wide array of dental treatments that aim to improve the appearance of people's teeth. These treatments include, but are not limited to, teeth whitening, braces and dental implants. Correcting chipped and misaligned teeth is also a huge part of cosmetic dentistry procedures, with thousands of people now opting to wear clear aligners under the guidance of cosmetic dentists.

Dental clinics dedicated to cosmetic dentistry with experienced dentists carrying out treatments are popping up everywhere. Here are the main types of treatments offered:

  • Bonding to repair chipped teeth - Fillings the same colour as teeth are used to fill chipped areas. Another type of filling for the same purpose is known as resin filling. This is mainly used to repair teeth that are located towards the front of the mouth, i.e. the ones most visible when one speaks or smiles.
  • Whitening Treatments - These treatments are much more effective when taken under the guidance of a cosmetic dentist. The type of whitening treatment depends on the severity of the tooth discolouration. Generally, those treatments taken in the dentist's chair are more expensive and are suited to more heavily stained teeth. Dentists may also provide gel to be taken home and applied because it is cheaper. In comparison to over the counter whitening strips that can be purchased at any pharmacy or grocery store, the whitening treatments at the dentist's office are more effective and do not damage the teeth enamel.
  • Dentures - These can be either partial or complete depending on how many teeth need to be replaced. The dentures nowadays are comfortable to wear and can greatly improve the quality of life of those who struggle to eat with missing teeth. Dentures also improve the aesthetic appearance of the teeth, helping people to regain their confidence.
  • Braces - Braces have a come a long way since traditional metal braces were invented. One can now opt to use clear aligners instead, which are much more comfortable to wear and can be taken off when eating. The type of braces best suited for a particular patient must be discussed with a specialist. For more complicated cases, metal braces are still the best option.

When opting for cosmetic dental treatments, ensure that you carry out appropriate research into the types of treatments offered as well as the best dentist in your vicinity. Ask friends and family for their opinions as well.
